If Your Windshield Is Cracked, You Need Expert Auto Body Repair ASAP!

auto body repair There are a lot of ways that a windshield can become damaged, even ones which aren’t your fault.  All it can take is another car kicking up a loose piece of gravel, and suddenly there’s a noticeable crack in your windshield.  However, just because it’s a small crack doesn’t mean it should be ignored!  You still want to take your car to an auto body repair shop in Spruce Grove as soon as possible.  Even minor cracks create significant new dangers.

Why You Should Have A Cracked Windshield Repaired ASAP

Simply put, once a windshield is compromised, it’s only going become less and less reliable as time goes on.  For one thing, the crack is likely to slowly spread, and as it does so, the windshield becomes weaker.  Eventually, the crack may grow until it presents a serious vision problem.

However, the real issue is how the windshield will behave if you’re in an accident.  A cracked windshield will shatter much more easily – potentially sending glass shards into the passenger compartment.  It will also fail to absorb much if any, if the impact, so that will make the accident worse on the rest of the car and its occupants.

A cracked windshield can even cause airbags to fail.  Airbags are designed assuming that the windshield will be able to provide a backdrop and absorb the force of airbag deployment.  If the windshield is already compromised, the airbag can potentially knock the windshield out of place – and therefore fail to be properly positioned to catch you or your passenger.

Driving with a cracked windshield is legitimately dangerous.  You should have it checked out by an auto body repair shop at your earliest convenience.

A Short-Term Fix for A Cracked Windshield

Of course, you may not be able to take your vehicle in for major repair on the very same day.  If it’s going to be a few days before you have time to have the windshield worked on, your best course of action is to get some super glue and spread the glue around the cracked area.

This is far from a permanent fix, but it should prevent the crack from getting worse, as well as providing a little extra reinforcement.
